It probably wouldn't hurt to get one for your gear stash just to try for yourself, but I wouldn't try to do anything more than quick orientation type of guidance with it. Those aluminum hot shoe adapters are nice in a pinch or for hooking things up like a laser pointer or phone mount for quick Google sky orientation, etc., but they tend to wobble and seem designed more for video adapters like mics or lights. Just think through if you quick mount things to the side you'll maybe want a skinny arca swiss clamp (male and female) to make the most of the space, or make sure the bracket has a cheese plate type of design for a 1/4 screw on the side if your mini finder scope has that mount option. The L bracket has an added benefit of allowing vertical or horizontal mounting.Īlternatively, maybe you use a really long dovetail and mount stuff side by side with a camera, or in the middle, depending on your mount style and space on the dovetail bar for multiples. My last two for Nikons I got were from Neewer - a generic Amazon brand, but they were good quality for the price. L bracket works well too for anything you don't want to move like a finder scope or autoguider. Looks like a nice setup above, that works!
